FRONT AXLE SHAFT REMOVAL
NOTE: The hub nut must be left attached to the axle shaft during removal whether servicing the axle shaft or the hub bearing.
1. With transmission in neutral, position vehicle on hoist.
2. Remove brake components.
3. Remove wheel speed sensor from hub bearing.
4. Remove three hub bearing bolts (Fig 2) #1 from steering knuckle #2.
5. Remove hub bearing (Fig 3) #1 with axle shaft #2 through steering knuckle.
6. Remove brake shield and hub bearing from axle.
7. Clamp the axle shaft and hub bearing assembly (Fig 4) #1 in a bench vise #2 and remove the axle shaft nut.
NOTE: Make sure when clamping the axle shaft in a vise (2) that it is clamped at the yoke ear of the shaft.
FRONT AXLE SHAFT INSTALLATION
1. Clean axle shaft and apply a thin film of Mopar® Wheel Bearing Grease or equivalent to the
shaft splines and seal contact surface.
2. Install hub bearing and brake shield on axle shaft.
3. Place the axle shaft with brake shield and hub bearing (Fig 4) #1 into a bench vise #2. Clamp down on the yoke ear of the constant shaft in order to torque the hub nut.
4. Torque the hub nut to the proper Torque Specifications. Refer to SPECIFICATIONS
NOTE: The brake shield and hub bearing must be installed before axle installation. The hub nut must be torqued before axle is installed.
5. Install axle shaft (Fig 3) #2 with hub bearing #1 through steering knuckle and into differential side gears.
6. Install three hub bearing bolts (Fig 2) #1 through steering knuckle #2 and tighten to the proper TorqueSpecifications. Refer to SPECIFICATIONS
7. Install wheel speed sensor. Refer to SENSOR, WHEEL SPEED, FRONT, INSTALLATION
8. Install brake components.
